St Winnow Church Window Appeal
St Winnow is a wonderful Grade I listed Cornish church overlooking the estuary of the River Fowey near Lostwithiel.
The church is historic and mostly dates back to the C13 when the church was partly rebuilt, although there are also some remains of Norman architecture in the north walls.
The south aisle, porch and tower were built in the C15 and church underwent a major restoration in the Victorian era.
We have raised through grants and gifts £45000 of the £65000 needed
please help us finish this project and we will keep repairing window by window till the funds run out
UPDATE 10/08/2024 We have started this work, with two windows taken out for repair and the stonework has been done around them, there have aslo been repairs done to the chancel, work continues for the next couple of weeks
St Winnow church has an historic collection of stained glass windows.
Some of the windows date back to the C16, while other windows are by recognised C19 stained glass artists,
such as Lavers & Barraud and Clayton & Bell, or by recognised early C20 stained glass artists, such as Herbert Bryans and Charles Eamer Kempe.
The windows are now in urgent need of attention and the PCC has embarked on an ambitious programme of repairs.
This includes masonry repairs to the stonework to the window openings, ironwork repairs to the window ferramenta and saddle bars, as well as the conservation of the glazed panels.
The work is being carried out by skilled stonemasons C F Piper & Son and conservation glaziers Dan Humphries Stained Glass and is being overseen by Le Page Architects.
